OMOBIZ! Vol.6-5:
“Are You Coming Again Tomorrow?”—
When Football Crosses Language Barriers | Reiya Tanaka

Back to the Japanese version.

OMOBIZ!, a program brought to you by members of Creative Guild, is hosted by Tetsuya Miki and Zack (Yuta Sato), also known as AI Papa. Their guest is Reiya Tanaka, owner of FC PHOENIX. Episode 5 explores what Tanaka finds interesting and enjoyable, from the pleasure of seeing supporters happy to encounters abroad, travel, and hobbies. It invites us to consider what makes an activity worth continuing.

One highlight is the moment when the team wins and the people who came to watch are delighted. Achievement does not end with those who produced it: others witness it and share the joy. Seen through those relationships, winning means more than a position in a table. In our own work, whose happiness is connected to what we accomplish?

The episode introduces an experience from Tanaka’s university days, when he studied in the United Kingdom. After playing football in a park, he was asked whether he would come again the next day. Sharing an activity can create a connection that does not depend entirely on fluent conversation. Playing together can open the door to a relationship and to the simple prospect of meeting again.

The program also features an AI explanation of why football is popular around the world. An explanation alone, however, cannot fully account for the experience of meeting another person. Placing it alongside Tanaka’s story gives us a more concrete way to think about sport crossing language barriers. What could you enjoy with someone you have just met, beyond conversation itself?

The discussion also moves beyond football to a solo trip to Israel, a six-day climb of Kilimanjaro, and shogi. These interests do not need to be justified as useful training for managing a club. Learning about someone’s curiosity and everyday pleasures may change how we relate to them and how a desire to support them begins.

Enjoyment can be more than a reward that follows achievement. It can also be a reason to meet people and gather again. Where does your own pleasure overlap with someone else’s joy? Try asking a teammate to share one moment they particularly like in an activity you both continue. Watch the full episode to explore the experiences behind Tanaka’s enthusiasm.
