さらに驚くのが、廃棄物を人工ダイヤモンドへと生まれ変わらせる事業です。たとえば、牡蠣などの貝殻が大量に廃棄され、地域で処理しきれない問題があります。小笠原さんは、そうした本来捨てられるはずのものを素材として活用し、人工ダイヤモンドという新しい価値へ変えていきます。自然界には、本来「ゴミ」という概念がありません。命も、排泄物も、微生物や次の生命につながっていく。だからこそ、人間社会でも、モノ、お金、想い、資源が滞らずにめぐる仕組みをつくることが大切なのだと、小笠原さんは語ります。

Ogasawara-san once worked as a top hostess in Roppongi, but a powerful experience in Hawaii led her to develop a deep commitment to the natural environment. This idea of circulation lies at the heart of her businesses and activities.

One of her key initiatives is the “School of the Earth,” a school without a fixed campus. Rather than existing in a single building, the school appears wherever events, tours, lectures, or nature-based experiences take place. In modern life, we often rely too heavily on our heads. But by placing ourselves in nature, diving into the sea, or even experiencing something as wild as spearfishing, we can reconnect with our ability to feel. What Ogasawara-san is offering is not simply knowledge, but a way to recover the joy of being alive and the power to express oneself.

Another striking initiative is her business that transforms waste into artificial diamonds. For example, large amounts of oyster shells and other shells are discarded in some regions, creating serious waste-management issues. Ogasawara-san uses such materials—things that would otherwise be thrown away—to create artificial diamonds, turning waste into new value. In nature, there is no true concept of “garbage.” Everything, from life to waste, becomes part of the next cycle. In the same way, she believes that human society must create systems where materials, money, intentions, and resources can circulate without becoming stuck.
