Taking Up Musical Theatre at 54:
Rethinking a Comedian’s Assumptions

OMOBIZ!, brought to you by members of Creative Guild, brings Tetsuya Miki and Zack, also known as “AI Papa” Yuta Sato, together to discuss Miki’s own venture into musical theatre. After building experience as a comedian, what draws someone into another world of expression? The episode explores the starting point and the process of learning again.

The video title identifies a challenge begun at 54. Miki describes musical theatre as a pinnacle of expression and revisits his assumptions about comedy. This is a personal account of what attracted him, rather than a ranking of art forms. Confidence in accumulated experience and curiosity about an unfamiliar world can coexist at the beginning of a new endeavour.

An intention to start something new is not always immediately understood by others. The conversation touches on reactions around Miki and his wish to see a familiar landscape from the other side. Looking beyond an established field need not mean discarding experience. It can offer another way to understand it.

That intention led to time spent learning. Miki discusses studying, auditioning, and working towards a stage performance. Behind the word “challenge” are lessons, practice, and selection processes. Watching an experienced professional become a learner again reveals more about the undertaking than age alone can tell us.

The hosts also consider differences in nervousness between comedy and theatre. Experience on one kind of stage does not remove the unfamiliarity of another. It helps to distinguish what we already bring from what we still need to learn. If you entered another field, which experiences would you carry with you, and what would you want to be taught from the beginning?

The episode offers an account of learning and trying, rather than a promise that every dream will come true. What changes when we look beyond the world we know? If there is something you would like to begin, what learning environment and first step would you choose? Watch the full episode to hear Miki and Zack discuss the journey into a new form of expression.
