An Owner’s Ambition to Reach J1 from Minato: Reiya Tanaka, Episode 1
OMOBIZ!, brought to you by members of Creative Guild, welcomes Reiya Tanaka, owner of FC PHOENIX. Hosts Tetsuya Miki and Zack, also known as “AI Papa” Yuta Sato, explore the club’s ambition to reach J1 from Minato and the everyday work behind that challenge. How can a big goal connect with activity that can keep growing locally? Football opens a conversation about business and daily life.
The question about Tokyo’s 23 wards and the J.League in the video title leads into the club’s local ambition. Tanaka aims to move towards a higher stage while building support in the community. The challenge involves more than naming a distant destination: it means developing a team where it stands today. What future are we working towards, and what can we build today to support it?
Reaching a higher competitive level involves successive steps. The episode explains how the club sees its destination and its position along the way. A goal that looks overwhelming from a distance becomes more concrete when we consider the next stage. Moving between the long-term vision and the immediate step can also help colleagues share a direction at work.
The conversation extends beyond the pitch. It introduces a player who works at a sandwich shop and Tanaka’s work teaching at a learning centre. The team is discussed together with everyday employment, rather than as an isolated sporting project. Several points of contact in a neighbourhood may offer people who are not already football followers a way to encounter the club.
Continuing a sporting challenge while sustaining work and everyday life is a familiar concern for many people. How do we position ordinary work alongside something we want to achieve? How can we bring our colleagues’ experience and local connections into that activity? FC PHOENIX’s story offers a way to think about the different jobs and roles that support a shared endeavour.
Behind the ambition to reach J1 from Minato is the daily work of developing a club. Looking at the large goal alongside practical activity brings the challenge into focus. Which local connections or ways of working could support the next step in your own project? Watch the full episode to hear Tanaka’s hopes for the club and the work that extends beyond football.
