港区を起点に、いろんなところで働く・暮らす、楽しい時間を創りたい人たちによるコミュニティCreative Guild。このギルド名鑑では、そんなCreative Guildでつながったユニークな方々をご紹介しています。今回ご紹介するのは、Creative Guildのパートナーである一般社団法人 まちはチームだ の仲間であり、Discovery Coworkingのスタッフとしても活動するダンサー、石橋直子さん。ひととひとをつなぎながら、表現者のパッションに火をつけるコミュニティづくりに、北九州・小倉の地でチャレンジしています。

学生時代からヒップホップダンスに打ち込み、インストラクターとしても活動してきた石橋さん。表現を軸に生きるなかで、アパレルやキャンドル制作などのモノづくりにも挑戦を重ねてきました。そうした活動の延長線上でイベントに関わったことをきっかけに、Discovery Coworkingと出会い、一般社団法人 まちはチームだの活動にも参加。現在はスタッフとして、コワーキングの受付などの運営やイベント施策に携わりながら、異分野の人をつなぎ、多様な分野のアーティストなどの表現者が活躍できる場づくりに取り組んでいます。

そんな石橋さんが大切にしているのは、パッションです。「どれだけうまくいったか」よりも「どれだけ動いたかどうか」を大切にし、言葉にならない違和感やワクワクを信じて、まずはやってみる。ダメなら直し、よければ残す。そのシンプルだけれど奥深い、創造的な試行錯誤を楽しみながら、自分らしく続けてきました。それは、ダンサーという表現者としてどんなときも立ち続けるエネルギーであり、同じように表現の在り方を探すアーティストを支える力にもなっています。

私たちの社会では、「うまいか」「役に立つか」「収益になるか」といった基準が、行動の前に問われがちです。その結果、本当はやってみたいことや、言葉にならない違和感、まだ形にならない表現は、挑戦される前に置き去りにされてしまいます。地域にも、人にも、確かなパッションや創造性があるにもかかわらず、それを試せる“余白の場”は決して多くありません。石橋さんの取り組みは、「まず動いてみること」の大切さを私たちに思い出させてくれます。うまい下手ではなく、挑戦そのものに価値があると認め合える文化こそが、私たちが未来を築いていくために必要なのです。

石橋さんの取り組みは、“楽しい”という感情を起点に、挑戦のハードルを下げている点に大きな意義があります。まずやってみる。その一歩を、仲間や友達と一緒に踏み出せる場があることで、人は自分の可能性を信じ、前に進むことができます。とくにAIが台頭するこの時代において、表現者としての感覚や創造力は、大きなアドバンテージにもなります。そして、地道にその歩みを続けることで、最初は不可能に見えた道も少しずつ、でも確実に拓けてくる。まさに“楽しい”から始まる未来づくりは、北九州・小倉の地でも、いま動き始めているのです。

Naoko Ishibashi’s Challenge to Build a Community
for Creative Expression at Discovery Coworking

Creative Guild is a community that brings together people who want to work, live, and create enjoyable moments in diverse places, starting from Minato City in Tokyo. Through this Guild Directory, we introduce unique individuals connected through Creative Guild. This time, we spotlight Naoko Ishibashi, a dancer who is both a partner of Creative Guild through the nonprofit organization Machihā Team da and an active staff member at Discovery Coworking. Based in Kokura, Kitakyushu, she is taking on the challenge of building a community that connects people and ignites the passion of creative practitioners.

Since her student days, Ishibashi has devoted herself to hip-hop dance and has also worked as an instructor. Living a life centered on expression, she has explored various forms of making, including apparel and candle creation. Through involvement in local events, she encountered Discovery Coworking and became engaged in the activities of Machihā Team da. Today, as a staff member, she supports daily coworking operations such as reception work and event planning, while connecting people from different fields and creating spaces where artists and other creators from diverse disciplines can thrive.

At the core of Ishibashi’s approach is passion. Rather than focusing on “how well it went,” she values “how much she actually moved and tried.” Trusting subtle feelings of excitement or discomfort that cannot yet be put into words, she starts by taking action. If something doesn’t work, she adjusts it; if it does, she keeps it. This simple yet profound cycle of creative experimentation has allowed her to continue in her own way. It is the energy that keeps her standing as a dancer, and at the same time, the strength that enables her to support other artists who are searching for their own forms of expression.

In our society, actions are often judged in advance by standards such as “Is it good enough?”, “Is it useful?”, or “Will it generate revenue?”. As a result, things people genuinely want to try, unspoken intuitions, and expressions that are not yet fully formed are often left behind before they even begin. Despite the fact that both individuals and local communities hold deep passion and creativity, there are surprisingly few “spaces with room to try.” Ishibashi’s work reminds us of the importance of simply taking the first step. A culture that recognizes value not in skill alone, but in the act of trying itself, is precisely what we need to shape the future together.

There is deep significance in Ishibashi’s approach to lowering the barrier to challenge by starting from the feeling of “fun.” First, just try. When there is a place where that first step can be taken together with peers and friends, people begin to believe in their own potential and move forward. Especially in an era where AI is rapidly advancing, the sensibilities and creativity of those who express themselves become a powerful advantage. By continuing this journey patiently and steadily, paths that once seemed impossible gradually—but certainly—begin to open up. A future that begins with “fun” is not just an idea; it is already starting to take shape in Kokura, Kitakyushu.
