Beyond Connecting: Making Room to Be Together
Yohaku-san Community Lab | Kannazuki Open Day Report

Back to the Japanese version.

On October 26, 2026, Creative Guild’s Community Lab hosted the Kannazuki Open Day of “Yohaku-san, Want to Join?” online. For about 30 minutes on Monday lunchtime, participants began with a simple check-in. Speaking was optional, and the conversation did not need to end in a conclusion. We started with the question: How do people connect?

Questions That Have Stayed with Us This Month

At the first Open Day on September 28, sharing activities and interests revealed unexpected connections. On October 5, we explored invisible boundaries between old and new neighborhoods, and what makes familiar places feel welcoming. On October 19, the conversation turned to mental space, relationships, and the importance of not losing sight of our own feelings while caring for others. Across these different topics, one question kept emerging: What allows people to be present at their own pace?

Beyond Job Titles: What Interests You Lately?

This session began with ordinary updates from daily life. Someone noted how difficult it can be to answer, “What is your main job?” Asking “What have you been interested in lately?” may reveal more of the person behind a title. Sharing a little of what we enjoy can open a conversation. But growing the number of connections should not become an end in itself. Relationships cannot be measured by numbers alone.

Even Important Questions Need Room to Breathe

Later, we considered how to ask questions. “What is this really for?” can illuminate something essential, but repeated questioning can also make someone feel cornered. Not everyone can immediately remove the armor of their role or past experiences. Rather than demanding an answer, we can ask permission to explore further, listen first, and respect the choice not to speak today.

Room to Stay Together While Being Different

Our opening question—how do people connect?—seemed to become another: How can people remain together while holding different views and arriving in different states of mind? After the dialogue, an AI-assisted reflection in the voice of Yohaku-san left us with a question.

After asking a question, have we left enough room for the other person to respond at their own pace?

Open Day is not about taking home a perfect answer. Come to talk, listen, or simply drop by when the time feels right. There is always room at the table.
