- Skill
「Skill」
Skill

Yukkuri AI Study Session Vol. 25
Designing Work with AI Agents through “Skills”
Creative Guild is a community that began in Minato City and connects people who want to create enjoyable moments across different places and ways of working. Through the Yukkuri AI Study Session, we explore how AI can be introduced into everyday work at a relaxed, practical pace.
In the 25th session, held on September 16, 2026, we explored the idea of an AI-agent “Skill”: what it is, how it differs from an individual prompt, and how it can be applied to recurring work.
A Skill as a Reusable Work Procedure
One useful way to understand a Skill is as a reusable work procedure. Instead of explaining the same process from scratch every time—for example, how to create a weekly report—the workflow itself can be organized so that it can be reused when needed.
During the session, a daily reflection workflow was demonstrated. Rather than simply shortening an instruction, the important idea was to make a familiar way of working reusable.
Prompts, Gems, and Skills
Participants asked how Skills differ from prompts or customized AI assistants such as Gems. A prompt may be enough for a single task. A customized assistant can reduce the need to repeatedly explain its role or preferred style. Skills become particularly useful when work contains several steps that need to be repeated in a consistent order.
The point is not to rank these approaches, but to choose according to the nature of the work.
Turning Tacit Know-how into a Shared Asset
The deeper value of Skill design is not only saving time. Experienced people often apply small judgment rules without explicitly describing them: what to check in meeting minutes, where to look first in a document, or when a decision should return to a human.
Once these practices are articulated, they can become a shared operational asset for both people and AI. Knowledge that previously depended on one person can become reusable and easier to hand over across a team.
Before Automating, Ask Why the Work Exists
Automation is not automatically improvement. If outdated rules or unnecessary approvals are built into a reusable workflow, those inefficiencies may simply be repeated faster.
Before teaching work to AI, people need to ask: Why does this work exist? Is this still the right process? Designing an AI agent can therefore become an opportunity to understand and redesign the work itself.
Start with One Repeated Task
The practical starting point is simple: find one task for which you repeatedly give AI the same explanation. It might be a weekly report, meeting notes, reflection, or recurring research.
Try it first with a prompt. When you find a process that works, organize it into reusable steps. From there, AI use can gradually move from “asking AI for an answer” toward “designing a system in which AI can work.”
What matters in the AI-agent era may not be advanced technology alone, but the ability to break down work, put it into words, and continuously improve how it is done.
