(The English version follows the Japanese text.)

、Creative Guild

Even with a Few Words, We Can Connect.
Urban Nomad Event Report | Toranomon and Shimbashi

Back to the Japanese version.

On , we held an Urban Nomad Therapy walk with support from Creative Guild. Starting near the extensively redeveloped Toranomon Hills, we made our way to Shimbashi, enjoying the changing cityscape and unhurried conversations along the way.

Exploring the City’s Past and Present

Our guide was Kazuho Yoshida, who plans and runs city walks and events mainly in Minato City under the name Shukuran (祝蘭). With a strong connection to the local community, Kazuho practices a warm approach to hospitality, creating experiences together with participants.

What used to be here? What has changed recently? As we listened to Kazuho’s stories, we chatted, looked up at the towers, and paused outside shops that caught our attention, discovering the area’s past and present along the way.

Something one person noticed would spark a story from someone else. We each brought our own interests and perspectives to the experience of exploring the city together.

We also welcomed participants from overseas. A visitor from the Philippines who happened to be in Japan joined us, making this walk their very first experience of the country.

From Toranomon to the Local Nightlife of Shimbashi

The atmosphere changed as we approached Shimbashi. We browsed a Tamiya model shop and noticed how many restaurants served meat dishes. A stop at Karasumori Shrine revealed another side of Shimbashi, quite different from the high-rise skyline.

We also passed the shop of Mr. Watanabe, chair of the Minato City Tourism Association. The timing did not work for a visit, so we left that for another occasion. Then we headed into the New Shimbashi Building. Walking past restaurant signs and menus, we caught a glimpse of the after-work nightlife of Shimbashi’s office workers.

From newly developed spaces to lanes and shops filled with everyday life, we encountered several different faces of Tokyo, all within walking distance.

Time Together Opens Up New Possibilities

As we walked, our conversations deepened.

With our guests from the Philippines, we talked about their impressions of Japan, what interested them, and what they hoped to do next. As we learned about one another’s interests and activities, the conversation grew to include possibilities for business across countries and regions.

Even with just a little English, the desire to connect can carry us a long way. And as we spend time together, we begin to see what we might be able to do together.

It was a lovely chance to experience this firsthand. Things we noticed in the city started conversations, and a few words from someone sparked a new idea. During a leisurely walk, connections between people began to open up new possibilities.

After an evening of walking and talking, we left feeling recharged. It feels as though something new and fun is about to begin.
