Let’s Keep Connecting the Energy of What We Love
Andrew Demeza’s Challenge in Kitakyushu: Creating a Cycle Between Experiences and Content
Creative Guild is a community of people who work and live in many different places, with Minato City as a starting point, and who want to create more joyful moments in everyday life. In this Guild Directory, we introduce some of the unique people connected through the Creative Guild community. This time, we feature Andrew Demeza, who is exploring social media, web marketing, and video production in Kitakyushu. He is working to uncover people’s deeply personal and sometimes wonderfully niche passions, shape that energy into meaningful content, and connect it to real visits, experiences, encounters, and new challenges. As part of Machi-Wa-Team-Da, a general incorporated association, Andrew is moving between the digital and physical worlds as he helps cultivate new spaces where people and culture can meet.
After completing high school in Japan, Andrew studied at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He initially focused on entrepreneurship before changing his major to marketing and graduating. He also served as a Director in the third cohort of the LinkedIn Student Club. In May 2026, he joined Machi-Wa-Team-Da in Kitakyushu. Working primarily in connection with Kokura Castle, he is involved in social media management, web marketing, video production, and the use of AI to improve operational efficiency. Through these activities, he is gaining practical experience in turning digital communication into real-world visits, experiences, and human connections.
What Andrew values most is making sure that a person’s passion does not remain isolated, but instead becomes a starting point for meeting others. He knows what it feels like to struggle to communicate his own value through words alone, and he has also experienced how difficult it can be for people who love a niche game to find and connect with one another. These experiences led him to study the web as a tool for both self-expression and relationship-building. That is why he looks beyond social media metrics to what happens next: visits, experiences, and genuine interaction. By listening carefully to the energy behind what people love and shaping it into forms others can understand and feel, he is beginning to emerge not as someone who simply leads from the front, but as a potential builder of media and spaces that connect different people and possibilities.
Today, almost anyone can publish information, yet visible metrics such as views and follower counts can easily become the dominant measure of value. In the process, local culture and people’s deeply personal interests may remain hidden simply because they lack the right means of expression or opportunities for connection. Andrew is interested in the possibility of using social media not merely to attract attention, but to inspire visits, experiences, and human encounters. How might we ensure that someone’s profound passion is not consumed as a passing piece of content, but instead becomes a source of belonging and a catalyst for new challenges?
Andrew’s challenge is an attempt to reconnect passions and local culture that might otherwise remain unseen—not merely with promotional content, but with opportunities for self-expression, meaningful experiences, and encounters with others. As these small cycles accumulate in Kitakyushu, they may grow beyond one-time tourism and help cultivate people who remain connected to the region, as well as new ideas and collaborative projects. Rather than presenting a finished answer, Andrew begins by listening closely to one person’s passion and working with others to test and develop what might grow from it. Inspired by that approach, let us use Creative Guild as a place to explore how our own passions—and those of the people around us—can lead to new encounters and new challenges.
