ヘザー・ドビンさんが安心と勇気で紡ぐ、創造と成長の旅

港区を起点にいろんなところで働く・暮らす、楽しい時間を創りたい人たちによるコミュニティCreative Guild。このギルド名鑑ではそんなCreative Guildでつながったユニークな方々をご紹介しています。今回ご紹介するのは、東京を拠点にエグゼクティブ＆リーダーシップ・コーチとして活動するヘザー・ドビンさん。人が安心できる関係性を起点に、創造性と変化への勇気を引き出し、起業家やリーダー、コミュニティの持続可能な成長を支えています。

日本と韓国を中心に約15年、人の成長や組織・コミュニティづくりに携わってきたヘザーさん。ソフトウェアエンジニア育成プログラムのマネジメントやコーチングを経て、2020年から自身のコーチング活動を本格化しました。現在はエグゼクティブや起業家、クリエイターを支援する一方、Tokyo Innovation BaseやVenture Café Tokyoなどでもコミュニティ形成に関わり、人・組織・文化の成長を多面的に支えています。

そんなヘザーさんが大切にしている価値観を一言で表すなら、「安心」です。人は不安や評価への恐れに囚われていると、防御的になり、本来の創造性や好奇心を十分に発揮できません。だからこそ、まず相手を一人の人として見つめ、温かさや落ち着き、思いやりをもって関わることを大切にしています。そして安心が生まれることで、人は違いを受け入れ、不確実な未来にも勇気をもって踏み出せる。その積み重ねによって、人・組織・コミュニティが自ら成長していく環境をヘザーさんは育んでいるのです。

私たちは今、売上やKPI、スピードといった目に見える成果を求める一方で、その土台となる安心や信頼、人との関係性を十分に育めているでしょうか。変化が激しく、未来を予測することがますます難しい時代だからこそ、正解を急ぐのではなく、違いに向き合い、対話し、不確実さの中へ一歩踏み出す力が求められています。人が本来持つ創造性を引き出すために、私たちはどんな「安心」をつくることができるのでしょうか。

ヘザーさんの取り組みは、変化の激しい時代に必要な「人間らしい成長」のあり方を私たちに示しています。安心できる関係性を土台に、違いを受け入れ、不確実さの中でも創造し、挑戦し続ける。その積み重ねは、個人の成長にとどまらず、組織やコミュニティ、さらには社会のあり方そのものを変えていく可能性を持っています。Creative Guildでも、まず互いに安心してつながることから、まだ見ぬ未来を一緒に創る一歩を始めていきたいですね。

Heather Dobbin’s Journey of Creativity and Growth, Woven Through Safety and Courage

Creative Guild is a community of people who live and work across different places, with Minato City as a starting point, and who want to create more joyful moments in life. In this Guild Directory, we introduce unique individuals connected through Creative Guild. This time, we feature Heather Dobbin, a Tokyo-based Executive & Leadership Coach. By creating relationships grounded in a sense of safety, she helps unlock creativity and the courage to embrace change, supporting the sustainable growth of entrepreneurs, leaders, and communities.

For around 15 years, Heather has worked across Japan and Korea in people development, organizational growth, and community building. After managing and coaching within a software engineering education program, she began developing her own coaching practice in earnest in 2020. Today, she supports executives, entrepreneurs, and creatives while also contributing to community building through organizations such as Tokyo Innovation Base and Venture Café Tokyo. Across these different roles, she works from multiple angles to nurture the growth of people, organizations, and culture.

If there is one value that captures what Heather holds most important, it is safety. When people are caught in anxiety or fear of judgment, they naturally become defensive and may struggle to access their full creativity and curiosity. That is why Heather begins by seeing each person as a human being and engaging with warmth, calmness, and compassion. When people feel safe, they become more able to embrace differences and step courageously into an uncertain future. Through that process, Heather nurtures environments in which people, organizations, and communities can grow from within.

Today, we often pursue visible outcomes such as sales, KPIs, and speed. But are we giving enough attention to the trust, relationships, and sense of safety that make those outcomes possible in the first place? In a world of accelerating change and growing uncertainty, perhaps what we need is not to rush toward the “right” answer, but to engage with difference, enter into dialogue, and develop the courage to take a step into the unknown. If we want to unlock the creativity that already exists within people, what kind of safety do we need to create around them?

Heather’s work offers us a glimpse of what more human-centered growth can look like in an age of constant change. By building relationships where people feel safe, welcoming difference, and continuing to create and experiment even amid uncertainty, individual growth can expand into changes in organizations, communities, and eventually society itself. At Creative Guild, too, perhaps the first step toward a future we have yet to imagine is simply to create spaces where we can connect with one another safely—and begin creating together.
