港区を起点にいろんなところで働く・暮らす、楽しい時間を創りたい人たちによるコミュニティCreative Guild。このギルド名鑑ではそんなCreative Guildでつながったユニークな方々をご紹介しています。今回ご紹介するのは、落語家の桂 枝之進さん。古典を大切にしながらもZ世代ならではの感性で挑戦を重ね、落語の新しい可能性を広げています。その姿は、時代に合った“心の豊かさ”を深く、広く、世界、そして未来へと紡いでいく、文化のアップデートの実践者です。

枝之進さんは2001年生まれ。幼少期から落語に親しみ、9歳で高座に立ち、中学卒業後の15歳で三代目桂枝三郎に入門しました。2020年には仲間と「Z落語」を立ち上げ、クラブカルチャーとの融合イベント「YOSE」やAIを活用した新作創作など革新的な活動を展開しています。その革新性と社会的影響力が評価され、2025年にはForbes JAPAN の世界を変える30歳未満の30人「30 UNDER 30」に選出。11月24日には、異分野若手アーティストによる「ONE STAGE CONCERT」（会場・増上寺）にも登場します。

そんな枝之進さんの基軸にあるのは「温故創新」の信条。一方でその根底にあるものはよりシンプル。それは、楽しいこと・うれしいこと、つまり“心の豊かさ”を共有するという普遍的な姿勢です。とくに半径5メートルの友人や家族から、自分自身の“器”を磨き続けることを通じて。なぜなら、その手触り感のある地道な積み重ねは、影響の輪を確実に広げ、その時代に合った文化を形づくるからです。枝之進さんはまさにこの文化のアップデートともいえる活動を、落語を通じて、伝統を守りつつZ世代らしい軽やかさで新しい表現を紡ぐことで実践しているからこそ、各分野から高く評価されているのです。

現代の日本では、伝統文化の担い手不足や観客層の高齢化が課題とされ、若者の文化的接点も希薄になりつつあります。一方で社会は多様性と国際性を求め、共感をベースにした新しい文化のあり方が必要とされています。同様の構造は伝統文化だけ出なく、社会のいたるところで、世界中で起きています。しかしながら、文化の本質的価値、つまり文化があるからこそ社会・経済が形成され発展していく、という基本的な仕組みを理解せず、文化を後回しにしてしまう状況は否定できません。それは、“心の豊かさ”を犠牲にし、利己的に目先の利益を優先して。閉塞感や停滞感を招くことになります。いま私たちが社会に感じているように。だからこそ、枝之進さんのように、文化のアップデートが今必要なのです。

この先の未来に向かうために社会の問題は難しいし、考えるべきことは少なくありません。けれども危機感をあおるだけでは、余計に委縮してしまうだけ。ではどうするか。その答えの一つが、枝之進さんのスタイルです。それはまさにCreative Guildでも掲げてきた「“楽しい”から始まる未来づくり」の実践そのもの。ただし、その根幹は自らの器の研鑽です。枝之進さんがそうするように、私たちも自ら好奇心をもって、前向きに関わりあい、自らを磨きながら、時代に合った文化のアップデートに、より広く深く取り組んでいきたいですね、そのプロセスも間違いなく、“楽しい”ものになるのですから。

Enduring Enrichment of the Heart for a New Era
Rakugo Performer Edanoshin Katsura: Updating Culture with a Spirit of Renewal

Creative Guild is a community of people who live and work across various places, starting from Minato City, and who share the desire to create joyful experiences. In this Guild Directory, we highlight the unique individuals connected through Creative Guild. This time, we are pleased to feature rakugo performer Edanoshin Katsura. While cherishing classical traditions, he continues to challenge himself with the sensibility of his Generation Z peers, expanding new possibilities for rakugo. His work embodies the practice of updating culture—deeply and widely weaving “enrichment of the heart” into society, the world, and the future.

Born in 2001, Edanoshin grew up surrounded by rakugo, made his debut on stage at the age of nine, and formally apprenticed under the third-generation Katsusaburō Katsura at fifteen, right after junior high school. In 2020, he and his peers founded “Z Rakugo,” launching innovative projects such as YOSE, a fusion of rakugo and club culture, and experiments with AI-generated performances. His originality and social impact were recognized in 2025, when he was selected for Forbes JAPAN’s 30 UNDER 30. On November 24, he will also appear at ONE STAGE CONCERT, an interdisciplinary young artists’ event held at Zojo-ji Temple.

At the core of Edanoshin’s practice lies the credo of “Onko Sōshin” (learning from the past to create the new). Yet the foundation beneath it is disarmingly simple: sharing fun, joy, and ultimately, enrichment of the heart. He believes this begins within a five-meter radius—with family and close friends—and through steadily polishing his own “capacity as a vessel.” For him, such tangible, down-to-earth accumulation is what truly expands circles of influence and shapes culture suited to its time. This is why his efforts to update culture—honoring tradition while weaving in light, Generation Z-style innovation through rakugo—have earned such high regard across many fields.

In today’s Japan, traditional culture faces real challenges: a shortage of successors, aging audiences, and fewer points of contact for young people. At the same time, society increasingly seeks diversity, international openness, and new forms of culture grounded in empathy. This is not unique to Japan—similar dynamics are unfolding across societies worldwide. And yet, too often culture is pushed aside, as if secondary to economic or political priorities. Such neglect sacrifices enrichment of the heart, favoring short-term self-interest and creating a sense of stagnation and blockage—much like what many of us feel in society today. This is precisely why cultural updates, like those Edanoshin is pioneering, are urgently needed.

The challenges society faces are complex, and the issues to consider are not few. But simply fueling anxiety only deepens paralysis. So, what can be done? One answer lies in Edanoshin’s approach. It is, in essence, the same principle Creative Guild has been putting into practice: “building the future starting from fun.” At its root, however, is the continuous polishing of one’s own vessel. Just as Edanoshin does, each of us can nurture curiosity, engage positively with others, and refine ourselves while working together on cultural updates for our time. And in that process, we will surely find that it can be fun, too.
