港区を起点にいろんなところで働く・暮らす、楽しい時間を創りたい人たちによるコミュニティCreative Guild。このギルド名鑑ではそんなCreative Guildでつながったユニークな方々をご紹介しています。今回ご紹介するのは、長野県の電線加工メーカー 東特巻線株式会社の代表取締役社長・本多 豊さん。「ひと中心のものづくり」のための会社づくりに刻石流水の精神で取り組んでいます。

本多さんが代表を務める東特巻線株式会社は、1956年に長野県上田市で創業。電線加工メーカーとして、極細線の撚線加工や高周波コイル、ハーネスなど多様な製品を製造し、これまでにも国内大手企業と数多く協業してきました。本多さんは長年勤めていた同社の社長に2012年に就任。以来、人を大切にできる“善い会社”であり続けることを意図し、互いの信頼関係を基盤にしながら新しい可能性に挑戦できる組織風土づくりに注力。ものづくりを担う一人ひとりの成長を支える経営に取り組んでいます。

そんな本多さんが大事にしているのが、刻石流水（こくせきりゅうすい）の精神。これはもともと仏教に由来する言葉で、本多さんはその意味である「受けた恩は石に刻むようにいつまでも覚え、自分が人にしてあげたこと・かけた情けは水に流して忘れる」をご自身の軸に据えています。そして感謝することを忘れず、次の世代にその恩を送る、ひととしての“当たり前”を丁寧に積み重ねるマインドを、ものづくりのためのひとづくりの中心に据えています。

かつて日本経済の中心であったものづくり現場では、現在、深刻な人手不足が続き、技術者の高齢化による継承の問題も大きくなっています。その中で思い切ったリスクが取れなかったり、逆に安易に流行へ飛びついてしまったりと、不安定な構造を目にすることは決して少なくありません。また、かつてのものづくりの成長と安定の記憶から、会社組織や制度に無意識に依存してしまう傾向もあります。重要なことは、いかにこの現実に向き合うか、という点です。

だからこそ、本多さんの取り組みには多くの学びがあります。そしてそれは、モノづくりの領域に限りません。“ひと”を中心に据えること、そして刻石流水の精神でマインドから整えていくこと。そうすることで社会との信頼関係が築かれ、新しい可能性の扉は必然的に開かれていくのです。そこに特別な才能は必要ありません。地道に、丁寧に続けていくこと。その積み重ねが未来をつくります。ぜひ本多さんの姿勢にならい、私たちも感謝を忘れず、未来の扉を開き、恩を次の世代へと送っていきましょう。それもまた、“楽しい”から始まる未来づくりになるはずですから。

Today, we feature Mr. Toyo Honda, President of Totoku Makisen Co., Ltd., a long-standing wire-processing manufacturer in Nagano Prefecture. He is committed to building a company rooted in people-centered manufacturing, guided by the timeless spirit of kokuseki-ryūsui.

Founded in 1956 in Ueda City, Nagano, Totoku Makisen has specialized in wire processing for decades—producing ultra-fine litz wires, high-frequency coils, harnesses, and many other products. The company has collaborated with major manufacturers across Japan and continues to support advanced industries behind the scenes. Mr. Honda, who became president in 2012 after many years with the company, has since focused on cultivating a “good company”—one that values people above all else, nurtures mutual trust, and encourages everyone to take on new challenges. His leadership centers on supporting the growth of each individual who contributes to the craft of manufacturing.

At the heart of Mr. Honda’s philosophy lies the spirit of kokuseki-ryūsui—a phrase originating from Buddhist teachings. It means: engrave the kindness you receive in stone, but let the kindness you give flow away like water. For Mr. Honda, this mindset is the foundation of human character. Remembering gratitude, passing on the goodwill we receive, and treating the “ordinary” with care—he places this mindset at the core of both people development and manufacturing.

Japan’s manufacturing landscape—once the driving force of the national economy—now faces pressing challenges: severe labor shortages, aging technical experts, and a growing gap in skill succession. At the same time, some companies hesitate to take necessary risks, while others chase trends too quickly, creating unstable conditions. And the long shadow of past growth has left many unconsciously dependent on organizational structures and old systems. The real question is: How do we face this reality?
